VP Marketing, Apothecary Products
I am a Harvard MBA who has been a retail executive for over 25 years. I started at Target Corporation (the Department Store Division) in 1989 and became one of 3 head merchants (SVP/General Merchandise Manager) in 1997.
After a buyout by May Company and then Macy’s, the Minneapolis buying office was closed down in 2008. After my job ended, I worked closely with George to “grieve” the loss of my business identity, sketch out my story – strengths – dreams for the future, and put a plan of action in place. George provided a safe place as well as wise guidance. Probably the best thing he did for me was to stop me from moving too fast, or from taking jobs that were not the right fit. He kept challenging me to join a “winning team.”
When I could look George in the eye and clearly articulate my reasons for taking the VP Marketing position at Apothecary Products, I knew I was making the right decision. In the last 2 years, I have made a challenging transition from Fortune 500 to small company, and from merchandising to consumer goods. It has not always been easy, but I have been able to stay in Minnesota, spend more time with my husband and daughters, lead a more balanced daily life, and still lead a winning team to success, which is what I love to do!
